The Eagles opened their season in spectacular fashion in front of a sell-out crowd at the Linc. Thrice McNabb connected with T.O. in the end zone. In fact, T.O.'s debut in midnight green was one for the books - eight catches for 63 yards and three TDs. And they said he could never get 80 catches on the season - at this rate he'll get 128! The other big story for the game was Brian Westbrook. Often criticized for his lack of durability, the Villanova grad carried the ball 17 times for 119 yards - his first 100+ yard game of his career. He seemed to be a man possessed and oftentimes during the broadcast even Cris Collinsworth - who routinely trashtalks the Birds - had a lot of praise for B-West. Now, it's hard to read too much into the opener, being that they were playing those New York Football Giants - a team on the rebound after a horrible last season with Jim Fassel at the helm. But the defense looked strong, even in the much-criticized secondary. And the offense looks poised for a record season. Indeed, the deep threat is finally there, and the ability to spread the opposing defense around gave McNabb the opportunity to connect with no less than eight different receivers yesterday - including two completions to Jon "Gimly son of Glorin" Ritchie, who typcially acts as a blocking fullback with few touches. All in all, I feel a spectacular year coming on. GO EAGLES!
