Ex-NFL Player Killed in AfghanistanI remember when Tillman left the Cardinals to join the Army, and he acted as if it were no big deal. How many people here would turn down a million-dollar NFL contract to go fight a war in Afghanistan? When I joined the Army in 1990 I had no options left, it's not like I was turning my back on golden opportunities to serve my country. And when I left for Saudi Arabia with my unit, leaving behind a 7-month pregnant wife, people said that I was noble; but it's not like I had any choice, I had to go because the Army said so. This guy had the chance to make a lot of money playing a sport that at most may have led to a broken leg or arm, or some similar injury; and instead he gave his life fighting for his idea of the American dream. Wow. Just wow.
