www.eweek.com/article2/0,4149,1526475,00.asp It seems that someone leaked the source code, at least some of the 35 million lines of source code, to the Web at large. Microsoft is saying that it's more likely that it is one of their Shared Source Initiative (SSI) partners, rather than a Microsoft insider. As such they are investigating it through the SSI rather than through internal security. You might be saying, So what? Well, with source code in hand, someone looking to exploit a security hole in the operating system would have a better look at the makings of the OS, and thus be able to find holes much easier. The potential for exploitation is huge. The initial reports were that some of the NT 4.0 source code was leaked as well, but Microsoft later confirmed that it was Windows 2000 source code only.
