I didn't know if I should post this under Sports or what, but it involves the Phillies so I guess it will go here.
August 12th at The Vet (Veteran's Stadium, where the Phillies play) is GAY DAY. I'm not even making that up. The Gay and Lesbian Task Force in Philadelphia wanted to have an outing, so to speak, for gays and lesbians to have a sort of community gathering day at the Phillies game.
I have mixed feelings about this. While I support gays and lesbians, and think that their lifestyle is perfectly fine (even though it's not really for me), I know that a gathering of gays and lesbians at a baseball game is just gonna bring out the small-minded fucks to protest and make big nuisances of themselves. Not the gays and lesbians protesting, mind you, but being protested against. On the radio this morning there was a woman who called and said that her son had been given tickets to that game, and she was not going to let him go because of the "element" (her word) that would be present. Whatever. People need to get over themselves. But I'm a realist; I know that people are NOT going to get over themselves and there will definitely be some homophobic queer-bashing pigs hanging outside the Vet.
It's unfortunate that they can't just have their gathering without drawing attention, but when it was announced this morning on the radio it drew a barrage of vociferous (and morally bankrupt) protest via the phone lines. And if those people will pick up a phone over this issue, you know they'll pick up a sign as well.
Fuckers. Why can't we all just get along?
