Lincoln Financial Field, the new home of the Philadelphia Eagles, hosted an open house for Eagles season ticket holders on Saturday, and for the general public on Sunday. I didn't get to go, which is a shame because I may never get to see the inside of the Linc (I can't afford football tickets). But the flap that arose from THIS visit was that there are no water fountains. Now, I can sorta understand the whole Hoagie issue. But to have no water fountains seems to me to be suspect, and a little miserly. Well today in a statement, the Eagles acknowledged that the lack of water fountains was an architectural oversight, and the architects were currently working on getting water fountains in all concourses. Thank god for that. In other news, there is a state legislator who has introduced a bill that will force the Eagles to allow hoagies to be brought in. Considering the issues with medical malpractice insurance in the state of PA, which seems to be driving doctors out of Pennsylvania, I think it's frivolous legislation being introduced by a politician who just wants to get his name out there. But Go. Ed Rendell is said to be looking seriously into the issue. I say, give it a rest. WHO CARES? It's a dead issue, just let it be. I'd rather that they figure out how to keep doctors in the state than to figure out how to get hoagies into the stadium.

More like $3.50 for a bottle of Aquafina. Sodas at the Linc will probably be $4-5.

Oh yeah, and they won't give you a lid for the soda, because it can be used as a projectile. No straws either.

Well, they didn't give you lids on beer at the Vet. So what is the difference? Besides, the Eagles don't make more money, the vendors do, the concessionaires do. There was some speculation that it was in the contract with the vendors that people should not be allowed to bring food in, but that was untrue.
Here's a post-script to the whole story. The City refuses to issue an event permit to the Linc until the water fountain issue is rectified (although they did issue a temporary event permit for the upcoming Manchester United game this Sunday). And through efforts of Gov. Ed Rendell and the state legislature, the Linc security staff have agreed to designate two entrances as "food entrances" where fans will be allowed to bring in outside food, but will be subject to tougher security checks (X-ray machines and metal detectors, like at the airport). The STATE will be picking up the tab for the extra security. So great, the taxpayers have to pay for this stuff. I shouldn't act like I care; I don't live in PA so it's not my tax dollars. But I still think the whole thing was amuch ado about nothing.

(in reference to the above re: the vet) Point being, better to spill soda on some unsuspecting child instead of beer. 2. The Eagles aren't even the first to get to play in their new stadium? That sucks ass.

No, the Manchester United game has been scheduled since last year, and a lot of people think it's gay that a soccer game is the first game played there. Fuck 'em, I say. Sport is sport. Besides, I guarantee you that the Eagles don't mind (considering how much they probably charged FIFA to allow the game to be played there - they charge Temple University $400,000 to play 5 games there).
