Seven thousand years ago, the ancient Egyptians bowled on alleys not unlike our own. I think I've bowled on a couple of those alleys. At least they seemed that old. Babe Ruth, one of the greatest hitters in baseball history, began his career as a pitcher. Interestingly enough, very true, and he was an excellent pitcher to boot. But the BoSox switched him to the outfield so he could bat daily rather than once every few days. Of course, back then there was no designated hitter.
