The MLB All-Star game ended last night in a 7-7 tie after commissioner Bud Selig called the game at the bottom of the 11th inning. His rationale was that neither the National League nor the American League teams had any pitchers left. Needless to say, the fans were not pleased, voicing their disdain with a chorus of boos.
Baseball is one of the few sports that almost cannot end in a tie. Very rarely has there ever been a tied baseball game. In fact, the All-Star game has only ended in a tie once, when the game was called due to weather.
So what do you think? Should the game have ended in a tie, or should they have drafted some bench-rider to stand on the mound and just throw pitches? I'd have rather seen a distinct outcome. Eleven innings? That's not even a remarkably long game. Unfortunately, I see this event as another nail in the MLB coffin, and I pray that the impending strike/lockout does not happen. If it does, I see the end of baseball as the so-called national passtime. It's hanging by a very thin thread as it is.
