TV Advertising's DVR ChallengeAll of a sudden, it makes sense to me why Charlie Epps (from Numbers) launched into a Dyson commercial in the middle of last week's episode. It's because of all the TiVo people! Product Placement has gotten out of hand recently, and it's because of DVR users, no doubt. Advertisers are just trying to get their ads seen at any cost. Who can blame them? But still, it's distracting and obvious, and for people like me who don't use a DVR, it's annoying and trite as fuck.

they'd do it anyway. they do it in video games and movies all the time now. I mean come on, a Sobe vending machine on Oddworld? The fuck.

David Spade did a segment once where he pointed out all the product placement in Big Love. That was interesting. I guess I just never noticed it before. But the Charlie Epps/Dyson commercial was just out and out blatant.

I don't know the exact quote, but there was a point Charlie was making and there was a cleaning lady nearby with a Dyson and Charlie said "Take this vaccum for example. It works on the principle of centrifugal force spinning the dirt right out of little tornadoes of air." It was like Dyson himself was saying it. Like Fred Flintstone smoking a Winston or Bob Hope following the Texaco Star, it was probably the most BLATANT product placement I've seen in a long time.
