When I was a kid I used to watch Charlie's Angels on TV. CBS, if I recall correctly. I obviously didn't get as much enjoyment out of it as my Dad. Still, my parents watched it, so I watched it. It was a kitschy parade of boobies and big hair, masquerading as a women's lib show. Plus, it made Farrah Fawcett-Majors a major sex symbol, only to be outdone by Bo Derrek after the release of "10."
The remake film is on one of the film channels this month. Don't ask me which one, we've got 49. And most times we don't watch TV anyway, coz there's fuck-all on TV. But Saturday night, Charlie's Angels was on. Let me tell ya something. This movie was seriously done in the vein of the original series. For those of you who weren't paying attention, a recap: A kitschy parade of boobies and big hair, masquerading as a women's lib show. OK, so the hair is not so big, and the women's lib angle is seriously overlooked. But DAMN, I mean DAMN these are some hotties. Drew Barrymore, for one, had some serious steam in a particular scene with a limo driver. And Lucy Liu as the hardnosed dominatrix, and then innocent schoolgirl type efficiency expert had me jumping out of my seat. Then there was Cameron Diaz's butt dance. Ugh. Unbelieveable.
Now, the story I found to be extremely predictable, but let's face it, action movies are not made to be Pulitzer Prize winning literature, are they? But this film did have a lot of good action, lots of demolition, great special effects, and some of the best fight scenes since The Matrix. I recommend this film highly to anyone who likes good ass-kicking action and explosions out the wazoo. A finer appreciation of T&A won't hurt either.
