I watched the cinematic retelling of Jaquelin Susann's rise to fame yesterday, and I learned some things about the venerable author of "Valley of the Dolls" that I never knew. First off, let me tell you, I was touched by the story of the love between Jackie and her husband, her struggle with the need to be famous, her battle with cancer, and her staunch conviction to make sure her first book hit the shelves completely unedited. Nathan Lane and Bette Midler were perfect as the Literary society's most reviled couple. If you haven't seen this movie, I recommend it highly, and if you haven't read the book, I rather recommend that as well. It's an American pop icon as big as anything has ever been.
