Were the VMAs taped? JBG and I were kinda wondering that last night, since it looked like it was done in film rather than video.
Some things that stuck out in my mind from the VMAs last night:
1. The opening was hillarious, but it was not nearly as good as the opening of the MTV Movie Awards, with Jack Black and Sarah Michelle Gellar. That shit had me rolling.
2. Eminem is becoming the worst caricature of himself. I found it amusing when he took it upon himself to lash out at a guy who was booing him during an acceptance speech, and then the entire crowd started booing him. It was almost like watching the beginning of the end.
3. Avril Lavigne has a lot of nerve trying to pass herself off as punk. She's less punk than Pink, who is a self proclaimed pop singer, and damn good at that. It's like some spoiled little rich girl woke up one day and said "I'm gonna be a punk singer!" Give me a fucking break.
4. James Brown is really looking old.
5. The White Stripes definitely deserved the Breakout Video award, coz Fell In Love With A Girl is probably the coolest video I've seen since Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer. But I thought they deserved Video of the Year also, and instead it went to that panty-waste Eminem, who began his acceptance speech by apologizing for his earlier actions. What a fucking pussy.
6. Oh my fucking God, what has happened to No Doubt? They are so far away from where they were when they started. Total suckville!!!
Anyway, if you didn't see the VAMs, don't worry, no doubt they will be on at least 60 times in the upcoming week.
