If you haven't been paying attention on the Internet lately, or specifically here at Max the Dork Online, you may not know that there is currently a serious problem that is taking Internet radio stations off the air! This problem is simply this: The Librarian of Congress has passed litigation that requires all Internet radio stations to pay royalties of .007 cents per listener per song to each of the artists of the songs that they play. While this amount may not seem like much (even at 1000 listeners per day and 400 songs per day, that's still only $28 a day in royalties), the problem comes in the accounting of the actual royalty fees. The amount of auditing and accounting necessary to fully generate an accurate amount for royalty processing, plus the paperwork required to pay the individual entities their due, is simply staggering. Hundreds of college radio stations, including WGLS Rowan University Radio, have already had to turn off their streams, and hundreds more will still follow. And there is something you can do. You can fax your legislator, AUTOMATICALLY, and let them know that you feel this is wrong. To fax your legislator, simply fill out the form on This Page and the fax will be sent with your name filled in. We have to let our representatives know what our feeling is, so that they can properly represent us!!!
