Archerd: "SNL" crowd tunes into Bush speech Reuters Oct 7 2002 9:37PM
HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - "Saturday Night Live" executive producer Lorne Michaels and his band of merry men were tuned to their prize subject, President George W., on Monday night. "I'm sure you'll find some response (to his speech) this Saturday," Michaels promised me.
He also admitted they had scrubbed a segment on Dub-ya on the season's premiere show (Saturday) when Matt Damon hosted and handled a host of cartooned impressions masterfully. A segment on the prez had been tried out -- but Michaels said, "When we found out he was to speak Monday, we decided to wait and see."
Meanwhile, Sen. John McCain will also have time to "wait and see" -- as he isn't scheduled to host "SNL" until Oct. 19.
