xXx
Lots of action, lots of explosions. Just what you want from a high-tech spy thriller. But this one has a twist - they recruit a guy off the street based on his bad attitude and unlawfulness. He's immediately a loose cannon, but that seems to make him that much more successful at what he does. Vin Deisel is so hot, even I get a little chubby looking at him. And Samuel L. Jackson is awesome as his scar-faced boss. My only complaint - don't let Xander get the girl anymore, because Vin does NOT know how to have a hot kiss on screen. He's very mechanical about it. That having been said, it's still an awesome film. The soundtrack wasn't too bad either.
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Picking up where "The Fellowship of the Ring" left off, this film delves more into the world of men and the grip that Sauron has over the world of Middle Earth. The special effects are sensational, and I still can't figure out how they made Elijah Wood into a three-foot hobbit. But the action sequences are awesome, the story follows the book precisely, and the final battle scene between good and evil is heart-stopping and extremely well choreographed, even if it was done on the CGI screen.
Drumline
I had my reservations about this film, but even though it was a full two hours long, it just didn't seem as long as that. The drum corps stuff was simply awesome. Having been in a drum line myself, I really wanted to see it, and it brought back memories of my marching band years. But it had a pretty good story to boot, and I'm glad they didn't get too deep into the romantic aspect of it.
The Santa Clause 2
Frankly, I thought that the sequel to the 1994 film was even better than the first. But damn, Judge Reinhold is looking old these days. It was a neat fun story and it was especially cool to see that they used the original Charlie in his role again. And I really liked the other holiday characters, particularly the Tooth Fairy (or as he prefers to be called, the "Molinator"). It was a fun film that I laughed out loud at several times. My son liked it also, and I'd definitely recommend it for little kids.
