Well, the award show season has begun my friends. On Sunday was the first award show of the season, the People's Choice Awards, followed on Monday with the American Music Awards. And one thing I noticed was that a lot of the presenters at the AMAs were also presenters at the PCAs.
That leads me to my question: Just how many award shows do we need? Why do we need a weekly stroke of the superstars' ego? How many times a year do we need to tell actors and actresses, directors, screen-writers, musicians, song-writers, record producers, stuntmen, pornstars, key grips and coffee-fetchers just how fucking wonderful they are?
Let's see, coming up we've got the Grammy's, the Emmy's (Both primetime and daytime), the Oscars, the Tony's, the Country Music Awards, the Golden Globes, the BET Music Awards, the VH1 Fashion Awards, the MTV Video Awards, the MTV Movie Awards, the Rolling Stone Music Awards, the Billboard Awards... And that's just a list of the top of my head.
I say, let's get rid of the awards shows, and have award shows for people like you and me, the "Commuters' Awards," the "Putting up with their bosses' crap" awards. Let's give awards to the people who really matter, and let the Entertainment industry do what they're supposed to do: entertain us. After all, if it weren't for the fans, they wouldn't have jobs. And being given an award for doing your job should not be exclusive to the entertainers of the world.
