Sunday, March 7th, Max the Dork went to Delaware for the first time to play at a club called The Ground Floor Grill and Nightclub, at 60 College Ave. in Newark. We had no idea what to expect, except that fellow 401 Records guys Skidmark have played there about a bazillion gagillion times. Also booked for the night were fellow 401 Records band The Positives, with whom we've played many shows (and are also scheduled to play with this coming Thursday).
So like I said, we didn't know what to expect. The stage is low, but big, and the room is pretty large as well - although the bar takes up a fair amount of the room. The place is downstairs, and dark, and so gives one a basement feel overall.
Well, we got the playing on at about 1800 hours, and launched straight into our standard setlist B (version 2):
1. Intro/Bonehead
2. Zero Down
3. Billy Boy
4. Lockstep
5. Ode to Ed
6. DWI
7. God's Gift to Women
8. Nocturnal Emissions
9. I Saw Her Standing There
It's a good solid half-hour setlist, and the crowd of about 50 or so were REALLY into it. Especially Ode to Ed. That song seems to really grab people. And by the time we got to "I Saw Her Standing There," the crowd was really wound up and going "WOOO" after the "I'll never dance with another" part. It was smokin'. We had a blast.
We stuck around for The Positives, who put on a really good show. Jason has a new guitar and was showing it off with style, banging through song after song (Italian Holiday, No Relation being a couple of my favorites). I mean, god I love their sound. It's like early Talking Heads or something...I can't explain it. Anyway, there will be more this coming Thursday. Lucky me (-: I wish I'd been able to stay longer but we had to pick the kids up from the sitter's. But still, we got to see The Positives' whole set. Good stuff (-:
So, we came home and celebrated a good show with some chinese food. Then yesterday, Bob, the owner of The Ground Floor called me and asked if we could do a few more shows there. I'm like, are you KIDDING? It was one of the best shows we ever had, we'd be foolish not to. So as of right now, we're scheduled to play the next three Sundays at the Ground Floor. So if you missed our groundbreaking Delaware debut, you can see us there on the 14th, 21st, and 28th of March.
