So it seems now that Virus writers are now encapsulating their code inside .rar files, which email firewalls and firewall filters don't generally check for. .rar is a type of compression which is 30% more efficient than typical .zip format, and is generally used to compress image and video files that are rather large. Typically, these virus packages are being sent with the subject line of "Free porn video" or some such thing, and when the user opens the .rar file they're faced with a file with a double extension such as porn.mpg.exe.
Just be cautious, I always recommend that you don't open files from people you don't know, and always check the extension and never open .scr or .exe or .com or .pif files (or any other type of executable file).
