Since its inception in 1995, Max the Dork has had one bandmember: me. I've done it all. I play bass and drums in the recordings, and live I play guitar and sing. But something is missing. True, the act is unique. There are not a lot of bands out there that have only one member. Although this is not a first-time situation, either. Nine Inch Nails started out as a one man band with just Trent Reznor, who then assembled musicians for touring. Lenny Kravitz played all the instruments on his first two albums and also had a touring band.
Well that's what I'm looking for now. I need a drummer and a bassist, and I'm pulling out all stops. I really feel that in order to take the band to the next level, I need to add some musicians. True, I will still be recording Crapital Punishment solo, but the next studio album may include some new musicians, and that would be awesome.
So here's what I'm looking for:
Drummer: I need a drummer with a great deal of musicality and a lot of energy, someone who can give me a kickass beat and keep the tempo steady. I need a rock-solid drummer with a built in metronome, and someone who's not afraid to play simple 2&4 beats as opposed to polymetric and polyrhythmic technical shows of prowess.
Bassist: I need a bassist with a lot of energy and stage presence to make up for the fact that I tend to stand like a statue during shows. I need someone out front with me whose energy I can feed off of. I need someone who can play hard or soft, fast or slow, but keep a musical edge and a solid rapport with the drummer.
One other thing. Both the bassist and the drummer must not be afraid to lend some backup vocals to the mix. For the most part the backup vox are simple, akin to just chanting or screaming the line (as in Zero Down, where the backup vox are just "Layaway! Layaway!").
So that's what I'm looking for. If you live in the Pitman area, or at least Gloucester County, let me know you're interested by emailing me at bret@maxthedork.com. Or give me a call; I'm listed in the Gloucester County phonebook (R B Walker, 401 Lake Ave. Pitman).
Thank you for your time! ;D
