Just wanted to say, I called it on the day they swore him in as Secretary of Defense. I have the tape to prove it, too. But his nonchalante attitude when asked about the substandard armor given to the fighting men and women in Iraq just pissed me off. As a Gulf War vet myself, I know what it's like to be placed in harm's way and to just do your job day to day without question. But as soldiers, we're still human beings. And when we feel like we're being put into dangerous situations needlessly, because of the incompetence or uncaring attitude of our superiors, it affects moralle. These soldiers are scavenging steel plate from Iraqi junkyards, just to give themselves the armor they should have had in the first place. And for this jackass to tell them, "when we can't go to war with the army we want, we go to war with the army we have," and "Even armored tanks and humvees can still be blown up," it's apparent I'm sure to the soldiers over there that this sonovabitch doesn't give a damn about their lives. And how do you think that makes them feel? Think they really wanna go out and put their lives on the line for a country that they feel has turned their back on them? Put yourselves in their position, how would you feel? It reminds me of Gallipoli, where Australian soldiers were sent in wave after wave with no amunition, knowing that when they leapt from the trench they'd be mowed down by the Germans. How do you think the men in the second wave felt after seeing their buddies decimated by German fire? How do you think the third wave felt?
Well, our men and women in Iraq are probably feeling like that third wave at Gallipoli right now, throwing themselves into the fire and with minimal protection, and a country that has refused to give them the best chance of survival. Rumsfeld is an asshole, and the worst part is, Bush's regime is only too happy that he hasn't hopped on the exit bus out of Washington. Bad as he is, that fuckstick will have a job for the next four years, and it's our men and women in uniform who will pay the price.
Oh and by the way, if I haven't said it recently, thank you America for re-electing the douchebag who put that man in power.
