There is an article in Time magazine about a woman named Zafran Bibi. She was convicted of adultery, put in prison, and sentenced to death by public stoning. What did she do? She was raped. She went to the police, and they charged her with adultery.
"In Pakistan, victims of sex crimes are subject to harsh Islamic laws known as the Hudood orinances. For a rapist to be found guilty, four adult male Muslims have to witness the crime, or the rapist must confess. If the court rules there was consent, the woman can be convicted of adultery, as Zafran Bibi was."
How fucking wrong.

Yay Pakistan! I'm SO fucking glad we're friendly with that fucked up backwards-ass nation. In my mind, the US is every bit as fucked up as they are for turning a blind eye to human-rights attrocities such as this. So the message we've learned here is, if you're a man in Pakistan, and you're gonna rape a woman, make sure there's less than four men watching and never confess. That way the woman gets raped and humiliated, then thrown in jail and stoned to death. What a fucking world we live in.

actually, get this.... this is from that article, too:
"Although no stoning sentence has ever been carried out, human-rights activists say that women's lives are ruined by the shame and long years in prison."
so they aren't actually stoned to death... oh, that makes it all better, right? apparently they have suspended her death sentence, and are considering her appeal... yea, just to appease the people who are against it, right?
bunch of fucking cockknockers..

The question is, if the guy is found guilty, then what happens to him? And does she ever get an apology for being so heinously mistreated? The crime is not that a mistake was made, not from a human rights perspective. The crime is that the law that put her in jail exists at all.

i'm sorry, i just realized there is more to the story that i didn't put up there... she's pregnant, too. she got pregnant during a conjugal visit with her husband who is in jail on a murder charge. now, he claims that his father forced her to make the rape accusation against a man whom the father was fighting with. she changed her store later and accused the brother-in-law...
it's all kinds of mixed up and screwy. and i feel bad for this woman who has been put into this situation, no matter what happened.... fucking backwards ass motherfuckers....

When I read things like this that happen not only in other countries, but here as well, I get so mad, but I just keep quiet because sadly enough--I am getting used to seeing all kinds of horrible injustices all the time and no amount of my bitching is going to change that. Even when I do voice my opinon, I get so worked up I come just short of spontaneously combusting.

I think that the most elemental problem in society today is that no one really says what they mean, and that outrage is felt and never talked about, or talked about only in small circles but never acted upon. It's one thing to feel outrage over a situation like this. Anyone with blood corsing through their veins should feel outrage over this type of injustice. The question remains, then, that if you feel that kind of outrage, what are you doing about it? Talking about it is a nothing action. By doing something about it, I'm talking about writing to your congressman about your outrage over this situation, or staging a public protest and inviting the media, making clear and bold statements about what you are decrying and why, boycotting products from that nation and organizing others to do the same. After all, talking about things that piss you off gets nothing done if the people you're talking to are not in a position to do anything about it. Boycotts only work when done en masse. One person boycotting Pakistani products doesn't even make a noticeable dent in their Gross National Product. But to organize a body of people to boycott their products, to voice your opinion publicly and vociferously, to make publicly known your stance against this kind of injustice, these are the things that are sorely lacking in our society today. Too many people rage tacitly about real issues, and do nothing to change it except to complain to people who can do nothing about it. The time has come for society to regain its voice, the voice it had in the 60's and 70's, the undisputed era of unrest and protest. That's the kind of action that needs to be done to get real change to occur.

That's why I keep my mouth shut about it. I am not out there doing anything, so what gives me the right to complain about it? I have written to people in politics (our governer, the president, e.t.c.) and do you think they even fuckin care what some little gnat like me has to say? What am I gonna do, go and hold a protest downtown just to get beat to a bloody pulp by the cops? Also, I don't vote, I think that politics are mostly all corrupt and bullshit, not with anyones's best interests in mind unless you have money, so I choose to keep my mouth shut on details that bother me. I've tried to speak up before and I was either ignored, told I was not smart enough to be voicing my opinions on such things, or just told I was WRONG. I know that in order to be a leader and voice things, you have to come up against some adversaries, but I am the only person I know who feels the way I do about these things, and me bitching about it on my own does not do any good at all.

My my, we're quite the little racist aren't we?
Just because you didn't learn anything from the 60's (quite interesting considering you "worship" the 60's, whatever that means), doesn't mean that there weren't valid lessons to be learned from them. Just because you judge a person based on the color of their skin, doesn't mean that the world can't be better than that. And when it comes right down to it, just because you flap your gums in a BBS on the Internet doesn't mean you are trying to affect change. People who talk without backing up their words with actions are just talking to hear themselves talk. I recommend strongly that you take a long hard look at what people our age were trying to do in the 60's, because I really feel that the entire effort has been wasted on you.
