The full Senate is slated to consider the nomination of anti-women, anti-civil rights Judge Charles Pickering to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. Senators should filibuster Pickering's nomination, and he should not be confirmed. As a Mississippi State Senator, Pickering voted in favor of a convention to propose a constitutional amendment to ban abortion, and he voted against state funding for family planning groups. In 1976, he chaired the subcommittee of the National Republican Party that approved a plank calling for an amendment to the US Constitution to make abortion illegal. Pickering also opposed the Equal Rights Amendment.
