The thing that makes this so funny (other than it's published by The Onion, which automatically means it's very tongue in cheek) is that it's very close to the truth. What has kept the punk movement from gaining its proper due is the punk scene. For a group of social outcasts, punks have historically been an exclusionary group, and it's always been that you have to prove yourself to get "in." That's not what punk was founded on and it's not what it's supposed to be all about. Yet that's what it's become, and that's what it became very early on. Biafra talked about it in 1986 when Dead Kennedys released "Chickenshit Conformist:"
Punk's not dead It just deserves to die When it becomes another stale cartoon A closed-minded, self-centered social club Ideas don't matter it's who you know
If the music's gotten boring It's because of the people Who want everything to sound the same
Who drive the bright people out Of our so-called scene 'Till all that's left Is just a meaningless fad
Truer words have never been spoken. And this article exemplifies that attitude perfectly.

I bet in a century people will be saying:
"Those so-called punk bands they listen to today? Whatever? Whoever? LOLLERSKATES!1? They're not punk. Back in the day, man, we used to listen to the real deal: Sum 41, Good Charlotte, The Ataris. Those guys were what true punk rock was all about."

110 years on average for large breed of tortoises such as thoise found in the galopagos islands Thank god Lost is the only person on this board with his level of intelligence. I'd hate to have to continue to explain all this remedial crap to him.
