I'm cheating a little, the lead in for this post is taken from something I posted on the CFH board:
If Bush's proposed plan to drill in the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge (ANWaR) goes through, the effects of it will not be felt for at least 7 years which, if you can count and know anything about presidential terms, means that Bush will be out of office long before we ever feel the effects of the additional drilling. Also, the Republicans' own best case estimates put Alaskan oil production at approximately 2% increase in what we are supplying for ourselves now. And that 2% increase will come no sooner than 7 years from now. Wow. All that so we can displace some carribou and kill the ecology a little more. Yay. I fucking hate Republicans.
So the next time you hear the Republicans crying that the Democrats don't wanna do anything about the increased price of gas, remind yourself that if the Alaskan plan were approved today, it would take seven years before we would see even a 2% drop in gas prices. w00t. Fuckers.

Bottom line is, do we want to displace Alaskan wildlife and potentially ruin millions of square miles of pristine landscape so that we can drive gas prices down 2% in 7 years?
My opinion on this is that instead of looking for more places to drill for oil, which is a finite supply of fuel, why not look for other alternatives? Fuck the auto industry; force them to raise their fuel economy. Fuck the oil companies; let them figure out other ways to fuel the world. Hydrogen fuel cells are clean, and by the way kiddies, hydrogen is the most plentiful element in the fucking universe. The byproduct of Hydrogen fuel cell engines is nothing more than clean air and water.
But it's big business that gets the votes in Washington, not ordinary people like you and me. At least, that's what the Republicans give us.
