Over the weekend there were a ton of WTO (World Trade Organization) protests. Two questions come to mind: one, what exactly is everyone's beef with World Trade? Wouldn't One World be so much better for everyone? Well, I understand that the majority of the protesters have a problem with the WTO's stance on getting Third-World countries to pay up on their debts, and they also feel that the U.S. would be more meddlesome than they already are in the area of World finance. And that's pretty hard to imagine. Well OK, I'm fine with the protests. But.
There's a guy in Milan, Italy waving a huge flag bearing the likeness of Che Guevarra. Now, wasn't Che a communist? And the WTO just screams of socialism and communism, in its practice. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one. So why would one use the image of a communist revolutionary to protest the WTO?
I don't get it. Maybe someone can explain it to me.
