It's been a while since we posted a news update (It's been quite some time since we've put out a newsletter, too!) and some of you are probably wondering, "What the fuck is going on with my favorite punk band? Are they doing anything? Did they break up? Did Bret finally get that sex-change operation he's been wanting? INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW!!!"
Well, as far as the sex-chage goes, Mexico was... a nightmare. We got into a car accident... he was killed. Our luggage... was stolen. The surgeon... turned out to be... a quack. If it hadn't been for these men... [gestures to the Mariachi band] I don't know... how I would have... survived.
But all that's behind me now. Anyway, the band has been working on the new material for the upcoming album. Holy snikeys, it's our FOURTH FUCKING ALBUM! Can you believe it? And the song lineup has gone through some changes; we've added a couple brand-new (written in the last few weeks) songs and took a couple off. Right now we're at 13 new tracks, plus one bonus track (the video game version of Killer Cactus). There was supposed to be two bonus tracks, but we're taking the Eagles Fight Song off to avoid any copyright issues. Instead we'll be recording that and putting it on the downloads page. Check out the Making War for Fun and Profit page for all the updates there. We're gonna start recording in earnest now that Lake Studios has had its equipment upgraded (we got a nice new mixing console and some incredible-sounding monitors, and we're upgrading the Sonar software as well). Look for the album to be done and released by the end of the Summer.
Since we've been working so hard on the album material, we've not been doing any shows at all. We had a backyard show in June where the cops got called, that was awesome. Big ups to the guys from Brokenfixed for putting up a good show despite psycho-dad constantly coming back to yell at them to turn it down. Fuck 'em if they can't take a joke, that's what I say. (the psycho-dad, not Brokenfixed!). But anyway, we've got two shows coming up this month. The first is on July 16th at Brenner's Brew. It's us, a band from New York called Richard Cory (made up of former members of Honest Disaster), and Bubba Chucks from Millville. It's also possible we'll be playing with another band fronted by Tony Meier (formerly of Syphin) so that would be cool. The other show is a huge mostly-401 Records show with Brokenfixed, Last Week of the Day, and The Scandals, plus another band called The Low Budgets. It's at Holly Bowl in Hainesport, NJ, a place we haven't played yet but we've heard a lot of good things about it, so it should be an awesome show.
What else? Oh yeah, we're trying out a guitarist named Jon, and so in the meantime I'll be moving back onto the drumset. Who knows, I might like playing drums and singing so much that I stay there. We could be another Romantics. Or at worst, another Night Ranger. Anyway Jon hails from Burlington, NJ, and will be coming down for rehearsal this Sunday, so we'll see how it goes. He says he already has a few of our songs under his belt so he may very well work out. I for one would love to have the full band again. No offense to Ramon, he's been a great drummer. But there's something to be said for spontaneity, and unfortunately you can't get that from a CD player.
Well that's about it. So, hope your summer is going well, and I hope to see you at our upcoming shows.
