New News that is New
So here's an update, since we haven't posted any news since what, Septmember? It's not like we haven't been doing anything. Au contraire, we've been playing a few shows (like Emergenza {we came in 8th out of 8} and a couple gigs at Brenner's), and, well, yeah that's about it I guess.
But we've got two bits of news, one bad and one good, that are pretty big, so let's start with the bad, and end on a positive note.
I'm a techie kind of guy. I work with computers, although I'd been unemployed from April until December (finally landed a job at the Delaware County Community College working on their computer network). And one of the things I do is record music in my home studio. Now, I'd shut down the studio to retool, and also because I could make more money consulting on the weekends and that was more important than recording for now. But one of the things I was doing was working on a Ghost image of my PC for recording. It's a stripped-down version of the operating system and highly optimized for recording purposes, for better performance. And then I got the big idea that I'd create a bootable CD that automatically blows the operating system onto partition 1 of my two-partition hard drive. The second partition holds all the data files, all the application information, and the first partition only holds the OS. So I put the CD in the drive, turn it on and voila! It worked!
Only, it didn't put the OS on Paritition 1. It put it on the whole goddamn hard drive.
I lost everything. I lost my recording software. I lost my two novels that I wrote the past two Novembers (NaNoWriMo, story for another time). And I lost every recording of Max the Dork that I've done in the past four years.
Can anyone say, backup?
Yeah, I'm an idiot. But the sting is over. It looks like, oh gods, we're going to have to start recording our fourth album all over again. Wow, this sucks. But the shining light is, I did back up the wav files for our first three albums and two eps before everything went bye-bye. So all is not lost. However, my novel about a jobless guy who kills himself is gone and no one ever read a single word of it but me. That probably stings the most.
Now, so far I've recovered 61 of our drum tracks, so we're good there. Ramon had a pretty big repertoire, apparently. And tonight at Brenner's we'll be playing some of that. Should be fun.
Now, the good news. We've got a show booked for January 21 at The Arena in Philadelphia, and we're absolutely STOKED about it. Those of you who know me know that I don't use the word STOKED lightly, so it's definitely big. We're playing with Alien 8, Mourning Electra and NOP73HS. For the uninitiated, Mourning Electra and NOP73HS are two of our favorite local bands. I'm really blown away because I was under the impression that NOP had broken up. This is as big as when we almost played with Zolof the Rock & Roll Destroyer (and they cancelled at the last minute).
So there's the updated news, in a nutshell. To recap: I'm an idiot; I lost my entire hard drive; we're re-re-re-recording the album; and we're playing a huge show on January 21.
Oh, and if all goes well, I should have our Shows page updated by the end of today.
Walker....OUT.
