Yup, after 6 months of trying with other software, it was Zero Assumption Recovery that finally did it.
Personally, I think I should register the software, because getting my book back is WELL worth the $120 for ZAR.
Plus, I'm pretty sure I can now recover the Making War stuff.

Yeah but when we have it, I mean, $120 is the least I can give them when they gave me back a month of my LIFE.

So umm does it maintain the folder directories? Because this is exactly what I need to recover a shitload of my music collection as well as a tonass of songs I made that are lost on my HD, but haven't ever been able to find one I can use without buying it, and I's broke.

It does indeed. That's why it was so easy to find the goddamn thing in the directory structure. I mean, I had to dig through some of the dir01012 folders that it didn't know the name of, but then it went like dir029834\My Documents\Personal Stuff\Novels\jobless.txt and there you have it. It also found my old Cakewalk audio folders, so I'm gonna try and restore that and get back my Making War recordings from right before it crashed, coz some of those were awesome.

The trial version lets you recover up to four directories at a time.
I've now recovered about 1000 files that I had previously lost.
